Kenmare

The purpose of the Masterplan is to guide the future development of Kenmare and deliver meaningful, place-based change – making it a more attractive town in which to live, work, visit, and do business.

Kenmare plays a key role in south-east Kerry as a gateway to the Iveragh and Beara peninsulas. Located on the Ring of Kerry, the town is a well established tourism destination with strong links to surrounding towns and also benefits from accessibility to West Cork and Cork City. It has also been identified as a town with significant potential to grow as a hub for business, retail and tourism.

This Masterplan sets out a clear vision, strategy and commitment to the sustainable and coordinated development of the town. It has been shaped by an integrated design approach — combining urban design, transport planning, conservation and landscape architecture — and is informed by national, regional and local policy, alongside current best practice.
